By reading our brief guide on how to avoid potential inconveniences during flights, you can ensure about a pleasant trip, so that you can arrive at your destination fully relaxed.
Air sickness
In order to avoid discomfort, it is recommended to take some rest on the day before departure and avoid spicy, heavy foods. When travelling, you are advised to drink as much fluids as possible while avoiding alcohol, coffee and black tea, as these beverages dehydrate the body. If you start to feel nauseous, try not to move your head; sit back in your seat and close your eyes. If the situation persists, call our flight attendants for further assistance.
Fear of flying
Some people are afraid of flying. With the use of proper relaxation techniques, this anxiety may be relieved. Move back your seat and close your eyes. Take a slow, deep breath while counting to three. Hold it down for a moment then exhale slowly, again while counting to three. Repeat this breathing exercise several times over.
Change in air pressure
Minor changes in cabin air pressure can be detected during takeoff and landing. This often results in popping in one's ears. In order to alleviate this sense of discomfort, air pressure in the middle ear must be equalised. The well-proven method of sucking on a sweet or chewing gum can help.
If you are suffering from any respiratory infection, we advise to include nasal spray in your carry-on baggage.
Jet lag
When crossing multiple time zones, our biorhythm is disturbed, which may result in a sense of discomfort. Although it is hard to avoid completely, trying to sit back and relax throughout the flight does help. After landing, try to adjust yourself to the local time.
Smoking
Smoking is prohibited on all of our flights.
Consumption of alcohol while on board
If consumed at high altitudes, alcohol has a more intense effect on the body than when consumed at ground level. Therefore, it is recommended to choose mineral water or soft drinks instead of alcoholic beverages. Consumption of alcoholic beverages taken on board by passengers themselves is not permitted. Malév flight attendants refuse to serve alcoholic beverages to minors under 18 years of age, as well as to passengers already under the influence.
