Ticket information

Many types of airline tickets are available, each differing from one another in terms of validity periods, terms and conditions, flexibility, type of travel and so forth.

Tickets may differ based on the following:

• With regards to reservation class, not only business and economy classes exist but several sub-categories within the two, prices for which may vary due to other ticketing parameters
• In terms of validity there are tickets valid for 1, 3 or 6 months or for even longer periods. There are fares the return legs of which are open for a certain period, such as 6 months. In such cases, reservations are made only for the outgoing leg; the return trip may be reserved anytime within 6 months. • In terms of issue method, there are paper and electronic tickets. In accordance with the IATA recommendations, the number of electronic tickets issued for Malév-operated flights has grown significantly since June 1 2008.

• In terms of travel type, one can distinguish between return and one-way tickets. One-way tickets costs more than 50% of a return ticket.

• There may also be differences regarding time of payment: Most airline tickets may be reserved at an earlier date, with actual payments only having to take place later. This is generally not possible for reduced-fare tickets; these must be paid for at the time of reservation.

• Discounts: Most tickets may be purchased at a discount for children (2-12 years) and infants (under 2 years of age). Reduced-fare tickets are not eligible for any further discounts.

• Modifications, refunds: An issue frequently encountered when purchasing a ticket is that, in most cases, reservations for the cheapest tickets cannot be modified and are non-refundable. It might happen that we have travelled to a location where we would like to stay for a little longer -or, on the contrary, leave earlier. It is worthwhile taking such aspects into consideration as well and to select a ticket that enables us to do so.

• Other: It is also possible to purchase tickets for another person. For example, you are living in the Netherlands and would like to buy tickets for your friends or relatives living in Hungary, who then pick up the tickets in their country. Certain additional charges may apply and the offer cannot be used for reduced-fare tickets.
