List of prohibited items

Items and materials which are prohibited to take onboard and/or those which endanger the safety of the flight are regulated by the 820/2008/ of the European Union. The regulation can be downloaded by clicking here.

Neither carry-on, nor checked-in baggage may contain:

  • With the exception of those used for hunting and sports purposes, objects that qualify, according to any carrier listed in the ticket (including those actually operating the flights), as guns, firearms or explosives (with the exception of safety ammunition 1.4S [UN 0014, UN 0012], in quantities stipulated by IATA, which may be transported as checked-in luggage).
  • With the exception of those used for hunting and sports purposes, objects and materials that qualify as guns, firearms or explosives
  • Flammable materials (exceptions: alcoholic drinks, hairspray, perfume and cologne; all of which are permitted in checked-in baggage, in quantities stipulated by IATA.)
  • Radioactive materials
  • Compressed gases (exceptions: canisters, filled with non-flammable gases in quantities set forth by IATA, that are used for powering artificial limbs, self-inflating safety vests or avalanche emergency backpacks, as well as medical cylinders containing gaseous oxygen and air).
  • Poisons, poisonous and infectious materials
  • Oxidising and corrosive substances (exceptions: in IATA-stipulated quantities, mercury-operated thermometers may be transported both in checked-in and carry-on baggage. Also, sealed lead-acid battery packs for wheelchairs may be transported as checked-in luggage)
  • Briefcases with lithium battery- or pyrotechnic device-operated alarm system
  • Objects and materials threatening aircraft safety and the life, health, physical soundness or personal belongings of the people onboard
  • Objects and materials causing discomfort or disturbance to the people onboard
  • Camping cookers operated by liquid fuel or compressed gas
  • Objects and materials qualified as prohibited by the countries involved in the flight
  • Objects that are unsuitable for air transport due to their weight, size or any other feature
  • Objects listed in the ICAO Rules for The Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air and the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations.

Checked-in baggage may not contain:

  • Cash, securities, bank or credit cards
  • Watches, jewellery, valuable garments and accessories, precious metals, gemstones and semi-precious gems
  • Computers, camcorders, cameras, mobile phones and other electronic devices, musical instruments, electronic items or any of their accessories
  • Deeds, documents or product samples
  • Travel documents or any other official documents used for personal identification
  • keys
  • drugs, medical equipment, prescription eyeglasses
  • Works of art
  • Any other object of high value
  • Fragile objects, perishable goods

Since Malév assumes no liability for damages caused either to or by liquids, we advise you not to include them in your check-in baggage.

Carry-on baggage may not contain:

  • Cigarette lighters
  • Lighter fuel
  • matches
  • fluids
  • Pointed/edged and sharp cutting tools
  • Any other sharp objects that may qualify, according to both Malév and airport security, as weapons
