Chisinau - capital of Moldova, one of the poorest earlier soviet states. The small - 33.000 km2 territory - country has a proud and stirring public life yet.
Its ecomomy is not too outstanding, mostly the agriculture, the purveyance and processing industry is important. With the strong relations to the rumanian people and the reunion fronts of the early 90's, Moldova is still independent, also not a full member of the CIS due an unvoted regulation.
Chisinau lies in the middle of the country, only 160 kms from the Black See. Its history - it is in the air first in the 15th century - is diverse. It was the part of the Turkish empire until 1812, then occupied by the Russians, in World War 2, the Rumanians enclosed. In 1944 the town was totally destroyed by the harsh fights. Now, fully rebuilt as a modern town. The only saved historical heritage is the orthodox cathedral was built in the 19. century.
The clime is mild, hot summer, not so cold winter.
