The city of lagoons

After tearing along the shores the motorboat respectfully slows down as we're approaching the noble palaces.

The vehicle cautiously slips into one the straight channels to take its amazed passengers to the destination. What people normally see during floods - the water-washed house-walls and the boats as everyday mean of transport - here are quite obvious.

On the large Piazza San Marco finally solid ground can be felt - if it is not flooded. Basilica di San Marco, the almost hundred meter tall bell-tower, the Campanile and the colourful clock-tower offer so much sight that in the end it is recommended to sit down, have a coffee and watch the hundreds of pigeons of the square.
Only a short walk needed to visit the Palazzo Ducale and the Bridge of Sighs that used to connect the prisons and the palace. And after travelling through all the 200 channels and tiny streets of the city, seeing the 3-km long Canal Grande and visiting some of the churches, you may as well have a sunbath at the Island of Lido, located between the sea and the lagoons.
