The beauty of the Hungarian capital attracted so many who came that they did not want to leave - think of the Romans, the Turks or the Soviets! For the same reason, from December, under the Budapest Winter Invasion tourist promotion, a free extra night will be off ered to visitors so that they can enjoy the city and all it provides. In the forthcoming months Horizon will off er its own virtual sight-seeing tours, highlighting what we regard as the most lovable aspects of Budapest. Our first stop is Buda Castle.

The Paris Department Store was built as the best of the best - one of the most attractive buildings in the middle of Budapest's magnificent boulevard, Andrássy Avenue, nearly 100 years ago. In 1909 Henrik Goldberger began the construction of the first truly modern department store to replace the Petánovics House, which had contained the Theresa Town Casino.
Although he first came to Hungary only a few years ago, he has been a regular visitor ever since. Michael Blunt, oneworld Vice-President Corporate Communications, does not hide the fact that he loves the Hungarian capital. The "Budapest Winter Invasion Campaign" was launched just awhile ago to bring to visitors the very best of Budapest working together with Malév, the Hungarian National Tourism Office, Budapest Airport, more than fifty hotels and many other partners. At the beginning of the campaign we were curious about how Michael Blunt sees Budapest.
Just opposite the entrance to the Gellért Thermal Baths, at the southern foot of Gellért Hill, there is an outcrop of rock containing a natural cavern (pictured). Archaeological evidence has shown that primitive man inhabited such caves 4,000 years ago. In the early middle ages local tradition relates how a charitable hermit named Iván made a subterranean home for himself here, dispensing cures to the sick with the help of the therapeutic waters that bubbled up near the cave's entrance. By rights this historic cave should have been named after Iván the hermit - but this was not to be. Indeed, somewhat confusingly, the place was known for centuries as either St. Gellért's or St. Stephen's Cave because of tales relating to these historical characters that were played out on Gellért Hill.
