Today's Berlin might not only be new to those who have last seen it before the fall of the wall, but also to the tourists of the last couple of years. If the fastest growing city were categorized in the Guinness book of records, the German capital would definitely win.
The once well-known line of the wall is forgotten, also by those who used to stare from the West side to the East from the stands. Yet the lane is replaced by office-buildings and apartment-houses. And as some might remember, the East's downtown was more exciting, full of lively restaurants and coffee-shops.
The once formidable "You are leaving the American sector" warning now can only be read on souvenirs like T-shirts and fridge-magnets. No part of Berlin belongs to neither the Soviets, nor the Americans, the Berliners finally got back their beloved metropolis - with museums, architectural wonders, fine dining, deluxe malls and one of the most lively cultural life of Europe.
If you think you can get to know this city on a short visit, you're mistaken. Unless you come back on a regular base...
