Helsinki and other destinations

Helsinki is a modern European city where the pace of life is in harmony with nature. It's surrounded by sea and islands, among them, Seurasaari Island with its parks and open-air museum. But in its 450 years as a city, Helsinki has been fought over from the East and the West, and this is reflected in the Suomenlinna naval fortress, which was intended as a deterrent in the past. Today's Helsinki is a futuristic city, with modern, energy-saving buildings and many internationally recognised high-tech businesses. Life in Helsinki does vary according to the season. As the sun emerges in the spring, the city basks in the light and parties - when the winter comes, Helsinki offers a huge choice of theatres, concert halls and other cultural activities.
If we're flying to Finland, then Turku will be of special interest as the former capital city, as would Rovaniemi, Lapland's capital city and „Gateway to the North Pole." In Lapland we can see Arktikum, the scientific exhibition centre demonstrating some of the wonders of the North pole. Not forgetting St Nicholas' village, where we may meet the real St Nicholas.
