The largest and most symbolic of these churches is represented by the Cathedral of Alexander Nevsky, which forms the symbolic heart of the city. You can find signs the nineteenth century coffeehouse culture in Sofia which is now combining with the signs of new affluence. In the main square we can see the church of Saint Sofia, built during the reign of Byzantine Emporer Justinian. In itself, the city is a beautiful and pleasant place, radiating out from an ancient centre, featuring great historical architecture interspersed with large green spaces.
