Prior to the war, Sarajevo was one of the most vivid and colourful capitals of Europe. Thanks to its rich history you could find mosques, Turkish bazaars, markets and Christian monuments.
After the war Sarajevo was reborn and got a serious renovation. The main street of Ferhadija is the real centre of Sarajevo, you can find here the Gradska Trznica market hall, the Trg Oslobodenja park, the new Serbian orthodox church and the modern Cathedral. Not far from here the Ferhadija Mosque was built, don't miss to see it. The main street continues at the Saraci, where cafés attract visitors to this buzzling district. If you keep on walking, you'll find yourself in the Oriental-style Bascarsija where most of the Muslim memories are built, including the bazaar. Most important sights are the new temple-gallery, the former Jewish Museum and the Begova Djami which is also the largest mosque in Europe. The real bazaar starts on the Saraci street with shops all along the way. Not far from here the old, 16th-century Serbian church was built but if you take a walk along the river Miljacka an exceptionally nice view can be seen to the hills around Sarajevo.
