The number of accrued Club Points or the number of credited Malév and oneworld scheduled flights determines the membership tier. Club Points are valid for one year from the date they are credited. We constantly monitor the number of your valid Club Points, and the number of considering, valid segments, and at the moment you reach the next tier entry level you immediately step up to the next tier. Tier repositioning happens automatically (except Platinum). You are then entitled to the benefits going with the higher tier e.g. Silver (Ruby), Gold (Sapphire), or Platinum (Emerald) tier multipliers applied to accrued points.
Annual check of membership tiers
We check all Club accounts and the number of collected segments on 1 January following the first full calendar year of membership. The above table shows how many Club Points are required to maintain Silver (Ruby), Gold (Sapphire), or Platinum (Emerald) tier membership.
If at the time the tier check is carried out the Club account has sufficient points or there is the necessary number of segments on the account to maintain the current tier, we simply renew its validity.
Example: If as a Silver (Ruby) Card frequent flyer you have accrued 42 000 Club Points, you keep your Silver (Ruby) tier until the next tier check.
If by the time of the tier check the Club Points or the number of segments has not reached the level required to maintain the current tier, then the member is repositioned down one tier. Downward repositioning may take place only one tier at a time.
Example: If as a Gold (Sapphire) Card holder you accrue 10 000 Club Points, or 10 segments, we will mail a Silver (Ruby) Card to your address.
Silver (Ruby), Gold (Sapphire) and Platinum (Emerald) Cards are valid for one year, Blue and Basic Cards has no expiry date, but since it is possible to reach the entry level for the next tier up at any time during the year, in this case we post a new Card to you immediately.
If as a Blue Card holder you accrue 0 Club Point until the time of the tier check, you may keep your Blue Card, you will not be repositioned to the Basic tier.
