Celebratory flights

2009. 08. 26

More than 1 million people saw the Malév B737 commemorative flight over the centre of Budapest on 20 August, Hungary's national holiday.

They enjoyed the flyby either on the spot or on news broadcasts covering the event.

A Malév B737 and a 60-year-old veteran Li-2 aircraft, formerly a member of the Malév fleet, staged a demo flight as part of the festive air show above the Danube during the national holiday celebrations. This is the fifth time that Malév has taken part in the air display.

The Malév B737 was piloted by Géza Fehérváry, Chief Operational Officer, and Mihály Zámbó, chief pilot.

Cooperation between Malév and Goldtimer Foundation

Not only does Malév consider the airline's future and development to be important but it is also concerned with preserving and rescuing relics belonging to the company's past. Thanks to cooperation between Li-2 operator Goldtimer Foundation and Malév, the former Malév fleet member reacquired its Malév 60's livery in August 2008. The Hungarian flag carrier provides significant professional and material support to operate this unique aircraft, the world's only airworthy Lisunov Li-2 veteran plane.
