Lower operating costs – passenger numbers maintained at last year’s level

2010. 07. 22

In the first six months of 2010 Malév's passenger traffic was similar to that of the same period in 2009, with a total of 1.3 million customers flying on the carrier's services. Even though there was no increase, still the number of passengers reflects an improvement in efficiency because it managed to achieve the same result with 16% fewer flights and increased the average load factor by 3.5%. The airline also cut its costs by a significant amount - 16.6 million Euros - in the first half of this year compared with the January-June 2009 figure.

Faster passenger service at Malév

2010. 07. 20

Malév has successfully launched Amadeus DCS (Departure Control System), which provides benefits for both passengers and staff since through the use of this advanced application the airport management of travellers is simplified and speeded up. Furthermore, the travelling public can now take advantage of the new online check-in  system, one of the great advantages of which, for instance, is that check-in is authorized not only for the immediate flight but onward connections too, as well as the fact that the whole check-in process is made simpler and more transparent. Malév began the switchover to the Amadeus Altéa passenger service platform last year; the first stage in this process was the renewal of the online booking engine in 2009.

Italian-Hungarian cooperation for kids from flood-stricken areas

2010. 07. 12

"One good turn deserves another!" This could well be the motto of the campaign in which Italian tourism enterprises - Just Hotels Group, the Local Authority of the town of Riccione and Malpensa Airport in Milan - are hosting a group of 20 Hungarian children coming from areas hit by the recent flooding for a week-long seaside summer vacation in Riccione. The Italian offer is at the same time a response to the Hungarian support provided a year ago when representatives of the domestic tourism profession (Hungarian National Tourist Office, Tourism Office of Budapest), Malév and Budapest Airport received a group of Italian children from the town of L'Aquila that had been struck by an earthquake for a long weekend in Budapest. Similarly to last year, this year's campaign could also be realized at the initiative of the Hungarian national airline and with the support of Budapest Airport Zrt. and Hungarian Baptist Aid.

After a break of nearly two decades, at 2.15 pm on 14 December 2009 a Malév aircraft landed again at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport.

Joulupukki, the Finnish Santa Claus, flew into Budapest on our Helsinki flight on 5 December for the fourth time. The heavily bearded visitor from the Nordic lands was welcomed by a group of excited children next to the runway; disabled kids from the Szebben Szeretnék Járni Foundation and children from the Liliom Nursery School in Gyál and the VI district Fasori Tinies Kindergarten greeted the distinguished visitor with shouts of enthusiasm and songs.
