Malév flight 872 touched down at Iasi airport on 30th March afternoon marking the opening of the Hungarian national airline's fifth destination in Romania.
The airline operates five daytime flights a week until the end of May and six a week from June to this regional centre in the northeast of Romania. Flights are covered by the carrier's Q400 regional turboprops.
The new destination takes to 64 the total number of weekly flights the company operates to five cities in Romania: Bucharest, Timisoara, Tirgu Mures,
Cluj-Napoca and Iasi. Hungarian carrier has the most extensive route network in Romania among the international airlines. During 2008 the airline carried more than 218,000 passengers on its Romania flights, which represents an increase in traffic of 20% on the previous year.
Malév's latest Romanian service provides an excellent connection to the airline's West Europe scheduled wave, as a consequence of which faster and more convenient links are created between the Moldova and Bukovina regions and Budapest, and through the Hungarian hub onward to the major cities and key regions in Europe.

Malév is the only airline supplying a direct air connection between Budapest and Iasi. Air transport in the region enjoys a considerable advantage over other transport options, since crossing the Carpathians by both road and rail is a time-consuming undertaking.
The new Malév destination is also a new destination on the oneworld airline alliance route network.
